Overview of the role
The role of the Interim Manager Devops Engineer is to work as part of an established development team in an agile environment to deliver the goals of the greenfield project. The individual will be a full member of the software engineering team. Current technologies include:
Hadoop ecosystem (Oozie, Pig, Hive, Spark, NiFi, etc.)
Containerisation – Docker
Continuous delivery – Ansible, Vagrant
This is not a single ‘out of the box’ technical solution rather an integration of open source projects, further developments and collaboration on those projects, commercial-off-the-shelf components and bespoke analytic and geospatial processing.
The purpose of this job is to ensure that cloud and on-premise Core Data Platform (CDP) system deployments, and associated infrastructure and environments (including development, QA, UAT, and production environments), are built and conform to security, architectural and system-specific requirements, and meet agreed measures for availability and performance. This will include delivering continuous improvement to these environments as the CDP evolves. Fundamental Tasks
System development and Continuous Improvement (50%) – Maintain and extend the Continuous Delivery code base, to ensure that deployment and testing of all system components is reproducible through automated processes.
System administration (including some Hadoop administration) (25%) – Day-to-day administration of the live and other CDP systems, including monitoring of system health and identification of technical debt for feedback into continuous improvement process.
System support (10%) – Liaise with other departments as necessary to implement required infrastructure changes and support ongoing changes to environments. Act as second-line support to respond to incidents reported by users of the system.
System releases (10%) – Administer the release process, including reporting on releases to the Product Owner.
Scheduled infrastructure maintenance (5%) – Routine application of updates and patches to servers at times of low demand. This will usually be carried out outside of standard working hours.
It is essential that you have the following skills and experience:
Linux admin and security
It would also be desirables if you could complement the team with the following skills and experience:
Experience with Big Data solutions with Hadoop
Software development experience, particularly with Java
Experience of integrating and utilising rules engines, machine learning and data analytics
Clearance Level required for role
The role requires SC clearance; UKHO will seek to gain this for the individual during the period of the contract if not already achieved .
